In the 1800s, the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia was the home of a population of crafty vampires. They were found out by the town's residents and buried in an underground tomb protected by a powerful spell, never to be opened.
In the 1980s, Santa Carla, California was a popular tourist attraction... as well as a haven for the undead. Violent murders and mysterious disappearances plagued the oceanside town, until the Head Vampire was killed in 1987, wiping out the vampire population.
It is now the summer of 2011. Over the past few months, a lot has happened in the supernatural world. In Mystic Falls, the tomb was opened and several old, vengeful vampires were let loose upon the town. In Santa Carla, there has been an increase in violent crime and supernatural activity.
The senior class of Mystic Falls High has graduated, and they're ready to have a summer of carefree fun before they have to join the "real world," whatever that is. Meanwhile, supernatural activity is once again on the rise in Santa Carla.
